The bride as she walks down the aisle with her lengthy trail brushing against the red carpet. The groom, waiting alongside his best man, preparing for the arrival of his bride. The bridegroom and the bride as they join hands. Numerous events in a wedding are meant for pictures, ones that are captured by an expert. Despite astoundingly state-of-the-art features on digital cameras nowadays, wedding photography must still be left up to the talented and competent eye of an experienced photographer.
A seasoned photographer has the skills and broad experience to produce photos in order that they really seize the theme, the mood, and the style of the total wedding. It is slightly like producing a movie and the photographer kind of acts like the director. His role is to snatch every event, regardless of how immaterial they might seem to the ordinary onlooker. It could be the back view of the couple’s chairs that are tagged with “Mr. Right” and “Mrs. Right.” It may be the wedding coordinator’s associate transporting a pile of color-coordinated wedding presents on a trolley. It can be the Volkswagen Beetle going away with the groom and bride in it.
Such scenes project themselves fine in pictures. And correct wedding photographers have the sharp eye and the artistic tendency to piece them all together in a smoothly bound, perfectly prepared photo album. Even when it’s been a couple of months or years, through a photo album that realistically captures the particular and interesting events of the wedding, the couple and their relatives will have no hassle eliciting the fond memories of that wonderful day.
Considered one of the not-to-be-missed shots any decent wedding photography Sydney expert would be aware to take is the first kiss. An excellent photo could bring the couple back to the warmth of that moment. An extremely outstanding shot should contain a different element into the image that ought to reveal the almost ethereal experience that the couple might have felt during the lip-locking moment.
One more must-not-miss shot is a pulled back snapshot of the entire reception. This is especially remarkable if the wedding happens to posses a very special theme. Whether it is a warm and cheery white and yellow wedding or a moving ’40s concept with the attendees and the wedding party in outfits, a complete photo with the appropriate lighting and the correct angle can express the actual feel of the wedding reception.
Unpretended shots of the bridesmaids, the groomsmen getting ready, brief highlights of the ceremony and the reception (the votive candles that line the steps leading up to the chapel entrance, the amazing centerpieces, the color-coordinated cocktail drinks, and so on), the wedding dog (if there is one), the jewelry, the couples’ father and mother, and other shots that need not really be too formal can find their way into the wedding album.
A Sydney wedding photographer may even give interest of the scene-stealers such as grandma moving up a storm with the groom or all the bridesmaids suddenly having a sink in the seashore in their very ladylike dresses. A skilled wedding photographer balances or integrates the glamour snapshots along with the attractively angled ones. No tender moment, no loving picture, no captivating second, and no wonderfully hilarious instant will evade the professional wedding photographer. And these are delightful memories displayed in an album that every married couple would value long after the bouquet has been tossed.
So many moments in a wedding are designed for pictures and are taken by a professional. In spite of incredibly innovative attributes on digital cameras at the present time, wedding photography should still be left up to the proficient and skillful eye of a professional lensman. Buying wedding gowns online can save you hundreds of dollars, but be sure to do it very early to allow you time to get your gown altered when you receive it. While buying a dress online may be less expensive, alterations can quickly add to the cost. Be sure to work the additional cost for alterations into your overall budget.
One affordable alternative to elaborate floral arrangements is placing multiple potted plants of varying sizes throughout the ceremony and reception sites. You also have several choices for pot decorations. For example, two common pot options are ceramic pots and terracotta stoneware. You can also decorate the pots yourself by painting them, or dressing them up with ribbons. You can offer the potted plants as wedding favors or if the new couple chooses, they can use them in their landscape.

While cropping and uploading Jim’s wedding pictures last night, I was reminiscing about my days as a wedding photographer -slash- advice columnist for Wednet.com. I read a lot of bridal guides and a lot of books on wedding photography, so I got to see the so-called Wedding/Industrial Complex from both sides.
Bridal guides would tell you that you should as a photographer what kind of camera he used. Hasselblad was the best, they said. Most expensive, absolute best optics. Why, it was the camera that the astronauts took to the moon!
Wedding-photography manuals would tell you that you were going to deal with a lot of brides who thought you should have a Hasselblad, so if you could afford one, you should probably have one. However, most brides would be devastated to see a raw print of themselves that had been shot on a Hasselblad. Every blemish on her face, every puckered seam on her dress, every lipstick smudge — all would stand out in high relief. It’s a scientific camera. It’s designed specifically to show details.
Ergo, the manuals would have a whole chapter on the filters to screw onto your Hasselblad lenses to dumb it down to the level of a Nikon lens. That way the bride would be happy with your camera and also happy with her pictures. It almost goes without saying that you could feel the hostility toward the putative idiocy of women radiating out of the pages of these chapters.
This isn’t even my favorite ridiculous Hasselblad story. The bridal guides were right; the Apollo 11 crew were issued several Hasselblads. Armstrong and Aldrin took theirs down to the surface. The cameras were left behind to reduce mass on reentry (there are a total of 12 Hasselblads on the moon now), but nine film magazines were brought back to earth. One of Buzz’s magazines — the one containing all the pictures of Armstrong — was “accidentally” left behind. On the moon, so it isn’t one of those “We can still make it on time if we turn around now,” situations.
Every picture you have seen from the Apollo 11 mission that depicts a man standing on the surface of the moon is not a picture of Neil Armstrong. There aren’t any of those. They’re all Buzz Aldrin. And you may not have known that before, but Buzz has known it for over forty years and has been laughing up his sleeve the whole time.
But (I hear you saying, because you too love the moon missions and are reluctant to believe Buzz to be capable of such shenanigans) maybe it really was an oversight. They had a lot to think about up there. I’m almost certain it was on purpose, though. Aldrin may not harp on this much, but he’s somewhat bitter that he was not the first person to walk on the moon. I’ll tell you how I know this. Years ago, Buzz wrote a sci-fi novel, and a friend of mine wanted his copy signed. Aldrin was appearing at the local Barnes & Noble, but my friend had to work. He asked me if I would take his copy down and have Buzz sign it.
This was to our mutual benefit, because of course I wanted to meet Buzz, but you couldn’t unless you bought the book. The line to meet Buzz coiled through the entire store, naturally, so I was in the queue for quite a while. I started to read the novel.
The main character is the second child born on Mars. He HATES being the second child born on Mars. The first child born on Mars is celebrated as a HERO even though there’s nothing SPECIAL about him and being the SECOND CHILD BORN ON MARS IS JUST AS GOOD! DAMMIT!
I still love Buzz. When I shook his hand, for a split-second I thought I had picked up a static charge from shuffling across the Barnes & Noble carpet for an hour and a half. Then I realized that no, I was charged up with space fever. I’ve shaken hands with other celebrities, but Buzz was the only one who gave me that famous I-don’t-want-to-wash-my-hands-now feeling. I had hitherto thought people were making that up.

Your wedding is a big day for you and it is important you get great wedding videographer London. The cake should taste good, the dress should be gorgeous, nobody should object to your union, and most of all, your wedding photography should be phenomenal. These photos are what you are going to have to remind you of your special day. When it comes to these lasting memories, you need a photographer that knows how to take beautiful pictures so that you know you are getting the best package you possibly can. As most everyone knows, Melbourne, Australia has some bright sunshine year round. A good photographer should know how to account for this bright natural lighting that can sometimes cause problems. When you are looking for a photographer to capture your wedding memories or record a video, here are a few things that you should look for before making a final decision on whom to hire.
The first thing that you should always ask when looking into a wedding photographer is whether they have samples of their work to show you. If they can’t show you any of their work then you won’t know what they are capable of or whether they are going to give you the amazing photos that you are looking for. Not every photographer is the same and they don’t all offer the same things so be sure that you look at every sample, and if you can, ask those that the photographer has photographed if thy were satisfied with their experience.
Make sure that there is a photo package available that includes all the photos that you want. There are some photos such as the entire bridal party, preparations of the bridesmaids and groomsmen and the ceremony that you don’t want to miss. These photos are the ones that create the lasting memories and without them, the wedding could just be any other party. You want to know that you are getting all the details, not just ones that a photographer thinks are important.
It is also important that the photographer does touchups and edits the photos. Nobody wants to see the giant stress blemish on their forehead on their wedding photos. A good photographer would cover them up so that they didn’t show. You also want access to a disk or non copyright images that you can post on your favorite social networking site. The photos should be owned by you since you are paying a high price for them.
Lastly, when you are looking for a wedding photographer, make sure that any potential photographers that you are looking into have the type of experience that you are looking for. If you are having a wedding that looks like a disco party. You need someone that can photograph everything with the flashing lights, glitter and other bright, elaborate decoration you might have. Be sure that their photo package also includes everything in it that you want. If you aren’t getting things you want then look for a different photographer. A photo package should always be customized to the bride.

Oh snap! Your wedding is coming up! You’ve got the perfect dress, your caterer is lined up and your bridesmaids have finally stopped arguing – now it is time to consider how you are going to cherish these moments years from now. It is time to make the decision about wedding photographers. Here are a few things to consider before putting your money on the table.
Scope out your potential photographer
Look at blogs of a few wedding photographers – if they are shutter bugging in this day and age they have one. Each photographer has his or her own “voice” and you will be able to see that on the shots they include in their blog. Choose someone who has an aesthetic that you like. Be sure that it is in line with your wedding’s overall feeling. For example, if you are holding your wedding in a historical venue, you may want to consider a photographer with a vintage feel to his or her portfolio.
Develop a relationship
You don’t have to marry your photographer, but you want them to be on your side when you do tie the knot. When you go for a meeting, pay attention to how well you get along. Be sure you discuss a “shot list” – the moments that cannot be missed – and be sure they are on board with what you think is important. On the big day your photographer will spend a lot of time with you. In fact, he or she may spend more time with you than your bridal party! You want to have a great rapport with your photographer, and trust them to capture the things that are important to you.
Give you photographer a heads-up
Let your photographer know about any special family needs. They won’t know your family history, so if Aunt Linda hates Aunt Barbara because Aunt Barbara dissed Aunt Linda’s stuffing at The Great Thanksgiving Throw-down of 1997, your photographer needs to know to avoid grouping that potential wedding disaster together. A good photographer will also have some control over the people who are around you throughout the day. Consider a signal with your photographer that will let him or her know that you are becoming overwhelmed and need a minute of peace. A wedding photographer can clear the room with a simple, “And now I’d like to get some private portraits with the bride.”
Give your family a heads-up too
Let your family know that there will be a professional photographer present. Tell them that the pictures will be available at some point after the wedding. When your photographers arrive introduce them to the close members of your bridal party. There is nothing worse than a magical photograph spoiled because someone unintentionally photo-bombed it. Kindly let your friends and family know that, as much as they might want to capture your first kiss using their point and shoot set-up from the 1980s, it would be better if they didn’t hog the best view of the most important shots. Allow the photographer some room to capture the moment without being blocked. Good photographers will let the family get their personal shots in after they have their chance.
From your first dance to that horrible number Aunt Linda was wearing, you don’t want to miss a thing. Wedding photography can be a huge bite out of your wedding budget, often taking up more than 20 percent of money set aside for your nuptials, so selecting a photographer that shares your vision is vital. The actual event will go by in a whirlwind so your photographer will be the key to capturing your special day.

Good Afternoon Everybody,
Things have been pretty calm around here this week even though our plane leaves for New York City in just the next few days. The fact that we just returned from Texas School means that the equipment bags are mostly packed and ready to go. LaDawn completed a few orders, retouched a two volume wedding order and is near completion on designing the albums. She should be able to head to New York City without too many work worries on her plate.
Anyway, you don’t want to hear about our upcoming vacation so, let’s get right on with today’s post.
The Angel Is In The Details
I know I paraphrased the regular saying, “The Devil is in the Details” but, I think today’s post really points to Angels. That is, Angels of profits. There are a lot of great new wedding photographers inundating the market, many of them offering different perspectives, styles and products on wedding photography. But, when I look at wedding photographs, competition albums and web sites I see mostly photographs of brides and grooms, the wedding party, some great candids but little to no photographs of the reception venue. What I want to suggest is that you look for the Angel in the Details and place a little heavier emphasis on the reception venue.
Wedding photography surely has to be about the bride and groom, their families and friends. But remember, you’re not just shooting for the bride and groom, and family members, you’re also shooting for yourselves knowing that the images that you capture can be used for sales, marketing, and promotion of your studio.
Here is a perfect example of what I’m talking about. Whenever I shoot an event, I always make it a point to take several photographs of the banquet room before all the guests arrive. I may take up to 24 images in the 7 – 10 minute time slot I arrange in advance with the banquet captain timed just before the guests enter the room. These images include overall views of the room and many close up details of the table settings. Now, you may think I’m a little crazy for taking 24 images and say, “Just how many of those photographs do the bride and groom want to buy?”
It’s not about the bride and groom purchasing all these photographs or even a few of these two dozen photographs. It’s about me having them as a resource I can use to approach the wedding venue and offer them a selections from the extensive ballroom shoot, high-lighting their efforts. The reason for this is pretty obvious. First, it shows that I’m a decent wedding photographer and let’s me showcase my work to the vendors I want to recommend me. And secondly, it’s a great benefit to the reception venue and my business building to get these images in the hands of the sales team at that particular venue. It’s a win-win for both of us.
Over the years we have created small, five to ten page vendor albums, which includes our branding on several of the pages, for most of the wedding vendors we have directly connected. We select about 24 or 25 images showcasing the details from the wedding, assemble them into five to ten 8×10 collage pages, and bind them together into a simple book for presentation to the venue.
What I’m suggesting today is to give a much heavier emphasis to the detail ballroom photographs since that vendor is key to my business building and whom I want to recommend my photographic services as they interview prospective brides and mothers of the bride. In my selection of 25 images, I’ll include a few photographs of the bride and groom, the flowers, and a few activities from the very special day. All in all the mix may split 75% featuring the reception location and table/room detail photographs of the venue. That leaves 25% of my signature images just to add a sense of WOW factor.
We collage images very quickly within LumaPix Fotofusion. With the recent release of LumaPix V5, it is an even a more incredible fast and efficient tool to do this. We print the collage pages up as 8 x 10 size prints, bind them in an inexpensive cover (about $12) and give them to the reception sales staff for their use in their sales room. The sales staff is pleased to receive the samples because it shows a recent event and it’s free advertising for them (and for me, too).
With LumaPix you can easily send a follow-up email including your collaged pages to the sales staff that they can forward to out-of-town perspective clients showcasing their location and ballroom. Just be sure you have include your branding within a few pages of the album, so as the sales team forwards the images your logo is included.
So, the next time you head out on your next wedding, especially your larger weddings, I suggest you look for the Angels in the Details. That Angel may just give your profits, those newfound wings, to a more prosperous photographic future.

Hey gang, that’s it for me today. We’ve still got a few loose ends to tie up and then were doing our final pack for NYC trip. How about I see everybody tomorrow for a quick note on four leaf clovers – you’ll have to tune in to see what I’m talking about ;~)
See ya’ then, David
